Hunting    Fishing    Flat Tops Trail Scenic Byway

Vacation opportunities abound in the area, which includes the White River National Forest and Routt National Forest. If you like a change of seasons, this is the perfect place to live. The four seasons show themselves in Meeker with a splendor and intensity that is hard to believe.

You can enjoy hiking, camping, fishing, mountain biking, backpacking, 4-wheeling, motor biking, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, horseback riding, or just pure, simple relaxation. Wildlife viewing and photography opportunities are everywhere in the White River Valley.

The 235,000 acre Flat Tops Wilderness Area is nestled within the White River National Forest and Routt National Forest. This wilderness area is easily accessible from several points along the 82 mile Flat Tops Trail Scenic Byway. It is surrounded by the Colorado towns of Meeker, Yampa, Steamboat Springs, Glenwood Springs, Craig, Rifle, Hayden, Phippsburgh, Silt, New Castle, Vail, Aspen, and McCoy

The largest elk herds in the United States are found in Western Colorado. Thousands of hunters come to Colorado every year to test their skills and hopefully bag the elusive "Wapiti".  Meeker and the surrounding areas are also very popular with hunters who pursue antelope, mule deer, mountain lion and black bear.

Non-game species of wildlife are abundant. Bald Eagles are frequently seen in their towering nesting areas along the White River near Meeker. Golden Eagles soar through the skies and are an awesome sight as well.

The White River Valley's friendly business owners, their employees, and the general population welcome you and will do their best to make your visit, vacation, hunting trip or relocation memorable and enjoyable.
